Newsletter: Pizza, Parties and Puppy | April with Queer Theatre

Spring is here and so is a glorious lineup of events for LGBTQ+ theatre-makers, creatives and allies. Whether you’re here to party, perform or play, there’s no better time to be part of London’s queer performing arts community.

Queer Theatre’s Trip:
Puppy by Naomi Westerman

Saturday, 26th April 2025 | Meet at the Kings Head Theatre at 12:15pm
Curtain Up at 1pm | Puppy finishes at 2:45pm
Kings Head Theatre, Islington

"It's a hobby like - it's mostly social"

A quiet change to legislation has resulted in a face-sitting protest outside Westminster. Deputy PM Nick Clegg has declared that the "Government is not there to stick its nose in the bedroom..."

Couple Jaz and Maya unwittingly find themselves at the centre of a political whirlwind, a far cry from their humble beginnings as a couple dogging in the Princess Di Memorial Car Park! Is their weird and wonderful community of doggers enough to shield them from the storm? Can they keep their love alive while fighting for their right to sexual freedom?

Starring Ashling O'Shea (Hollyoaks) and features Ian Hallard (Sherlock, Doctor Who) and Ed Larkin (The Little Big Things). Puppy is an outrageous, sex-positive  comedy about dogging, queerness, porn, face-sitting and Nick Clegg.

Runtime: 1h 45m, no interval

Pizza & Movie Night: Cabaret

The Two Brewers, Clapham

Queer Theatre invites all our members, friends, and theatre-makers to leave their troubles outside and join us for a night of charm, cheek, and divine decadence at Pizza & Movie Night on Wednesday, 30th April 2025, at The Two Brewers, Clapham.

This month, we’re screening the iconic, Oscar-winning Cabaret (1972) — Bob Fosse’s dazzling and disturbing musical masterpiece set in the Weimar-era Kit Kat Club, where performance and politics collide in unforgettable ways.

“Come to the cabaret, old chum…”

What to Expect

🍕 Doors open at 7pm

Arrive from 7pm to hang out with fellow LGBTQ+ theatre-makers and creatives. Food will be delivered at 8pm, ready for the start of the movie.

🎥 Movie starts at 8pm

Settle into cabaret-style seating for the screening in the Club Room, with a big screen, excellent sound, and English subtitles for accessibility.

🎤 Drag cabaret at 10:30pm

Prepare for an unforgettable performance by the fabulous drag queen, Son Of A Tutu!

🎶 DJ until 2am

Ready your legs for a wild finish as Amy LaQueefa brings the beats that’ll have you on the dancefloor until 2am.

This event is designed to foster connection within our queer theatre-maker community, helping to combat the isolation often faced by queer performers in the city.

Tickets are £22.50 (including pizza) and £15 (not including pizza). Profits are donated to Queer Theatre projects and help nurture LGBTQ+ theatre-makers.

Tickets will go off-sale at 5pm on Wednesday, 30th April 2025.

2B: Acting Classes for LGBTQ+ People

Every Monday | 6:30pm – 9:30pm | The Two Brewers, Clapham

Whether you’re an experienced performer or just starting out, our sessions provide a safe, welcoming space to explore your creativity.

This month, we’re diving into storytelling, improvisation, and devising queer stories—collaborating as a group to develop dynamic, authentic, and bold work. It’s a great chance to experiment, connect, and grow as an actor, all while working with a supportive queer-led ensemble. Facilitated by award-winning director, Andrew Keates.

What to Expect

6:30pm – Free tea & coffee and a chance to meet fellow LGBTQ+ performers.

🎭 7pm – 9:30pm – A structured class focusing on improvisation, storytelling, and devising new queer narratives. Come ready to play, collaborate, and create!

🍸 After class – We always socialise afterwards, with entertainment from drag artist and DJ. Amy LaQueefa

Whether you’re looking to refine your craft, build confidence, or just be part of a thriving queer creative space, we can’t wait to welcome you.
